Non-Destructive Assessment of the Functional Diameter and Hydrodynamic Roughness of Additively Manufactured Channels

Metal additive manufacturing, particularly laser powder bed fusion, is increasingly used in the gas turbine industry for fabrication of channels with small diameters conformal cooling and flow passage applications. A critical challenge this context lies evaluating aspects such as geometrical hydraulic diameters, effective area roughness on internal surface channel that affects functionality. This paper proposes a new method to evaluate functional equivalent i.e., diameter cylindrical mean topography height surface, using X-ray computed tomography. The developed methods were validated experimental tests, considering be hydrodynamic sand grain roughness, thereby determining associated area. much faster approach available compared tests offers possibility characteristics, discrepancies between two approaches being less than ±3%.
